Abstract

The Sumbawa horse (Equus cabalus) is one of the local Indonesian horse families which has an original geographical distribution on Sumbawa Island, one of the islands originating from West Nusa Tenggara Province in Indonesia. The number of the Sumbawa horse population from 2018 to 2022 has decreased, a very drastic decline in the Sumbawa horse population can occur due to slow breeding, exploitation and the absence of germplasm conservation, therefore, mapping of genetic variations is needed as a consideration in outbreeding. The aims of this study were to describe the kinship relationship of the Sumbawa horse based on the mapping of the genetic variation of the Sumbawa horse using microsatellite DNA markers. This research was conducted from January to March 2022, using the sample of 25 local horses Sumbawa. DNA isolation was carried out from horse blood samples, blood samples were taken using purposive sampling technique, blood was taken from the jugular vein and taken by experts. The microsatellite primer used in this study was CA425. Data analysis used the DNA finger print technique by calculating alleles for each BP (Base Pair) then converted into binary data and cluster analysis using software in the form of PAST (Paleontological Statistics). This study reveals the existence of allegations of intermarriage between individuals in the same population.
