Abstract

The Sumbawa horse is one of the Indonesian horse families with a uniform physical shape, genetic composition, and ability to adapt to a limited environment. The development of Sumbawa horse livestock needs to be followed by efforts to conserve germplasm by identifying genetic variations as a consideration in conducting outbreeding. One step that can be conducted is a phenetic analysis based on morphological characters. In addition, the results of this study need to be used as material for the enrichment of genetics lecture material in the form of a pocketbook. The aims of this study were: (1) to describe the kinship relationship of the Sumbawa horse based on morphological characters and (2) to determine the validity of the enrichment material for genetics course material. This descriptive and explorative research uses 25 individual Sumbawa horses as samples. Measurement of the morphological characters of the Sumbawa horse includes five parameters, namely, body length, height, neck length, hip width, and head width. The results of measuring the morphological characteristics of the Sumbawa horse show variations in the quantitative characteristics of the Sumbawa horse. The analysis of the percentage similarity of the morphological characters of the Sumbawa horse showed that the head width variable was a significant cumulative percentage in the diversity of the parameters of the Sumbawa horse. This result is reinforced by the results of the PCA (Principle Component Analysis) analysis, which shows a diversity of variations in the morphology of the Sumbawa horse divided into four quadrants. In addition, the results of the phenetic analysis of the Sumbawa horse indicated similarities between individual Sumbawa horses grouped into five morphological characters. The results of pocket book validation scoring based on the feasibility of content, language, and display were 3.6; 3.37; and 4 are all in the very good category.
